Long a fixture of the Mimbres Region Arts Council’s annual Blues Festival event, Harleys and other assorted motorcycles will take center stage Friday afternoon and evening at downtown’s new Blues Festival kickoff event, the Bikers and Blues Peoples Choice Bike Show.
Hosted by the Silver City MainStreet Project and many of downtown’s merchants, the all-ages show will be held on Bullard Street between Market Street and Broadway from 3 to 9 pm, with registration for bike owners from 3 to 4:30 pm. Music and other entertainment will be provided throughout the day, with Grant County favorite Brandon Perrault performing live from 6 to 9 pm, while Albuquerque-based DJ Curtis Pink will open the afternoon, spinning from 3 to 6.
“Through the generosity of our sponsors like Barnett’s Harley-Davidson ofLas Crucesand Shade Tree Custom Cycle Works of Albuquerque, admission to the show will be free to the public,” said Ginny Wolf, downtown gallery owner and organizer of the show. “The entry fee for bike owners wanting to show off their bike is only $10 per bike, and prizes range from $500 in cash to a $200 Barnett’s gift certificate to prizes donated by downtown’s best merchants.”
The show will be “peoples’ choice,” meaning that the prizes will be awarded based on votes cast by members of the public who attend the show prior to 5:30, when voting will be closed. Winners will be announced at 7 pm from the stage.
“Most of Silver City’s best eating and shopping opportunities are downtown, and we’re excited to be able to introduce ourselves to Blues Festival fans on Friday,” Wolf said. “Restaurants, coffee shops, shops and galleries will all be open, and I know that many of us will have specials for visitors this weekend.”
Food and drink will be available from several Silver City restaurants who will have outdoor booths especially for the show, as well as from establishments across the historic district. No Excuses will have Special event t-shirts and other merchandise available for sale, and Barnett’s plans to bring their Jump Start bike, a running but stationary motorcycle that allows anyone to experience riding a motorcycle while standing still.
Be sure to get your event T shirt either at the show or if your afraid they will sell out at NoExcuses, a great t shirt shop at 113 W Broadway here in Silver City. There phone number is 575 388 9797. They have all sizes in men’s & women’s styles for 18.00
